Lyle Koehn
Attorney at law, Koehn Law Office
A general practice of one, a short walk from the courthouse, for the farm families, shop owners and neighbors of Reno County.
After law school I spent a few years at a larger firm, mostly writing contracts for companies I never met. I learned to draft carefully. I didn't learn anyone's name.
When I came home, the first person through the door was a neighbor of my parents with a farm lease written on the back of a feed-store receipt. The second was a woman buying the flower shop she'd worked in for years. That's still the practice: whatever a town needs from its lawyer, short of the cases that deserve a specialist.
I answer my own phone when I can. I write fees down before I start. And I would rather tell you that you don't need me than take a matter I can't do well.

How the office works
One lawyer, one phone number, fees on paper
Most matters here have a flat fee, set in a short letter before I start: a lease, a will, a business purchase, a first DUI through diversion. Disputes that could run long are billed by the hour, at a rate the letter states, with a monthly bill that says what I did.
The first phone call costs nothing. If it turns out you don't need a lawyer, that's where it ends.

Ten minutes on the phone, first
Tell me what happened, or what you’re planning. I’ll say whether you need a lawyer, and if it should be me.
